Samuel Eccles

Samuel Eccles came to Canada from Ireland by way of New York City, where he had managed a brewery. He opened a brewery in London, Ontario and took on a junior partner who was a local farmer. Having taught the man the business, Eccles sold it to him — he saw no long-term profit in the trade. The junior partner’s name was John Labatt. He did very well.
